Multiple Chemical Sensitivity is a serious and growing public health problem. People with MCS are made sick by chemicals found in many common products such as pesticides, paints, new carpets, new building materials, cleaning products, air fresheners, perfumes, personal care products and tobacco smoke.
People with MCS are routinely denied safe access to health care and other services due to chemical barriers and ignorance. International studies show that 12% or more of the population have symptoms of MCS with nearly 2% no longer able to work due to common chemical exposures.
Without government recognition of MCS, and appropriate public health action being taken by governments to prevent MCS, the problem will continue to grow.
The state government must provide access to safe, chemical-free hospital and public health care for people with MCS.
The federal government must end the human rights abuses in chemical regulation and adopt a national MCS prevention and disability access strategy.
