National Awareness Week: May 7-13, 2006April 30, 2006
This year’s event will be held on Thursday May 11. We won’t be marking it with a public event this year, but there may be national releases during that week. Our seminar session will be focused in the second half of the year. After all the activity of the 2006 seminars, and the election campaign, we hope to start our public sessions with a parent evening on June 13, and a seminar session on July 22. That will be followed up with sessions in September and November. In one of our sessions later in the year we hope to have as a guest speaker, emeritus Professor Barry Marmion. Prof Marmion worked for many years at the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science and pioneered research into one of the important conditions linked to CFS: Q fever. Prof Marmion presented a paper summarizing his research at the epochal De Merleir seminar in Adelaide last June. Christine Hunter of the Alison Hunter Memorial Foundation regards him as a simply outstanding figure in CFS research in Australia. In fact, she was so impressed that when she was given the chance late last year to meet with the Federal Minister for Health about the need to give more priority to CFS research, she took Prof Marmion with her. |
