International Day of People with Disability 2006

Thursday November 23, 2006

International Day of People with Disability 2006Friday December 8 is the International Day of People with Disability 2006.

Arts Access SA is organising a number of events around that time (details can be found here).

One of these events is to be held at the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel. The Gov proudly claims to be a smokefree venue. But in fact several of our chemically sensitive members have had bad experiences there.

We’ve raised this issue with Arts Access SA. And we’re starting a dialogue with this imporant organisation about the need to enfold chemically sensitive people in its programs.

And one for our Catholic members: the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference is marking the Day a bit earlier – on Sunday December 3 – and is for the first time taking account of the needs of chemically sensitive people in at least some of its official events. That was in response to an approach by the Society.

Our thanks to their organiser, Patricia Mowbray, who has been terrific to deal with.
