The Election WashupMarch 23, 2006 CFS lobbyingPeter Evans of the SA Task Force on MCS has prepared standard letters which you can adapt to send to your local political candidates. The letters were originally designed to go to the Ministers for Health and Disabilities, then we suggested they go out during the recent campaign. However, it may now be a good time to send them to your local member or Upper House newly-elected people now.
Pollies (and their staff) like getting “form letters,” because they can just use a proforma response, since each letter is the same. So, we suggest you personalise your letter by making appropriate changes and go for it. Add in what you want to say about CFS also. Then the recipients have to respond individually, and not with a proforma response. While they are in the rosy glow of election or re-election, they should be more inclined to respond confidently. If you know the candidate personally, please make that clear: then their staffers will pass the letter onto them for response or checking. You can email letters to members via the addresses available on the List of Members at Parliament SA. (It was not updated on March 22, but should be by the declaration of polls in each electorate [within a week]. In the meantime, you may get addresses for “newies” from their respective party sites).
Click on the members’ name on the page and you should get all the details you need, inc. email addresses. Statements from MPs
