National Health Card community consultation – be alert!

The latest issue of the Consumers’ Health Forum of Australia newsletter draws our attention to the looming introduction of a health and social services access card.

ME/CFS society representatives at previous consultations on this have expressed concern that the new card could include health information which might harm a person’s interests.

As an example: an ignorant GP labels you as having a psychological disorder and it goes on the card. Their prejudice is thereby embedded in the card for anyone to read who is looking at you medically or for disability and other entitlements.

Strong voices are being raised against the need for such information to go on the card. We share their concerns. If you have the time and energy, dig into this further and make your own concerns known.
