Funding cuts

Monday 9 July 2007

Arthritis SAArthritis SA has sent the following letter to members and others:

PDF

Arthritis SA: Government funding cut by $58,000 to only $17,000 (PDF, 170KB)

The figures that they quote are astonishing in terms of cuts to a service that many of our members (particularly those with Fibromyalgia) use currently. While ME/CFS SA would love to receive any funding from the government, it seems even less likely that we will ever do so, if an allied group’s support is being cut by over 75%.

This is a situation which we draw to members’ attention.

You may wish to email or write to your local MP or Member of the Legislative Council and ask appropriate questions. One that comes to mind is about the impression the government wishes to convey about its priorities concerning people in SA with disabilities, if they spend millions on grandstands for sports fields and then cut budgets to important disability services, at a time when: (a) it is more disadvantageous and more expensive than ever to be ill and/or disabled; and (b) it is harder than ever to get volunteers or to get donations.
