Arts and science event at Flinders Medical CentreWednesday 15 August 2007
It explores the relationships between the arts, science and health – something which FMC has been doing excellent work in. Several of our members have drawn our attention to it. So here’s the full story: With the Body in Mind Arts in Healthy at FMC is coordinating a one day event titled “With the Body in Mind” to be held at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) on Sunday 19 August 2007. This is an art, science and health event linking FMC with Flinders University in collaboration with Science Outside the Square and South Australian Living Artists Festival 2007. The aim of the event is to explore issues of health relating to perceptions of the body, body image and beauty, though a dynamic collaboration between science and the arts. It draws on existing areas of interest and expertise at FMC and the Flinders University School of Medicine, in looking at the connections and interrelations between the sciences and the practice of art in its many forms. Scientists and academics from Flinders University, along with specialist staff from FMC, will work in partnership with accomplished artists from different disciplines - such as dance, drama, film, visual arts and music - to create lively and thought provoking presentations and discussions. The event will be held in the Level 5 Lecture Theatres at FMC. It is anticipated that there will be four or five presentations over the period of one day with parallel exhibitions, installations, performances and interactive displays in the foyer, adjacent study rooms and the Seminar Room on Level 4, FMC. With the Body in Mind is aimed at attracting the general public to FMC and promoting the links between Flinders University and the hospital. Admission to the event will be free. Good food and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the day. Science Outside the Square, through the Braff Initiative (Department of Premier and Cabinet) have been involved in the planning of this event and will provide organisational assistance and support as required.
