Our coming meeting is on that big topic – diet

Wednesday 5 September 2007

Basket of fruit and vegetablesDietitian Melanie Reid speaks on this key issue and its many ramifications for people with ME/CFS. It’s at 12:30pm Saturday 8 September.

And the venue is different from that advertised at the beginning of the year. It’s at the Catholic church hall at 80 Payneham Road Stepney. It’s opposite St Peters Town Hall and at the rear of the car park behind the church. See you there.

And don’t forget to eat beforehand or bring something to munch on – something that would pass a dietitian’s eagle eye!!

Melanie Reid is a dietitian with a long record of involvement with people with ME/CFS.

Melanie will be addressing a range of issues related to diet – weight management, low GI, fructose malabsorption and food sensitivities.

As noted earlier this year, we came away from the two-day experts’ forum in March struck by how much the discussion of how to manage the condition kept going back to diet. The experts didn’t see it as a magic bullet. But lacking the magic solution they saw an attentiveness to careful dietary management for each person as having quite important results.

We suspect that quite a lot of members will want to be at the meeting this Saturday to hear what Melanie has to say.

The venue is the church hall behind St Peters Catholic church at 80 Payneham Rd Stepney. It’s just across Payneham Rd from the St Peters Town Hall and is tucked in behind the church at the rear of a generous-sized car park. The hall is a good venue for chemically sensitive people and you can help out here by: not wearing fragrances; asking anyone attending with you to avoid wearing fragrances; and not smoking before or at the gathering.

You’ll note that the time is 12:30pm. This was chosen in line with the Society’s efforts this year to see how earlier times would suit those members who are better in the morning and fade out in the afternoon. It does mean that you might be listening to a lecture on diet with a rumbling/gurgling tummy! So we suggest that you munch on something beforehand or bring something to munch on in the 5-minute break we’ll provide halfway through.

The lecture is free to members and involves a gold coin donation for others.
