Phoenix Rising: Interview with Rik Carlson

Friday 2 November 2007

Rik Carlson Phoenix Rising is an informative newsletter put out monthly by American CFS suffererCort Johnsonon his website CFS Phoenix.

You can subscribe to the newsletter as well as download each issue.

The latest offering from Phoenix Rising is an interview with Rik Carlson (pictured), founder of the Vermont CFIDS Association:

Phoenix Rising: A Book Review and Interview with Rik Carlson (external link)

Here is Cort’s introduction:

Welcome to the latest offering from Phoenix Rising . The advocacy support group interviews are back on track with an Interview with ME/CFS author, advocate and support group leader Rik Carlson and a review of his book “We’re Not in Kansas Anymore”.

Rik Carlson grew up with the ideals of the sixties and busted his chops in the harsh reality of the small business world. In late 1994, after his best year ever in business, he came down with the flu. As he tried to work through it he was hit with an illness whose severity he could hardly have imagined. Two years later his business was gone, he was on disability and he had founded the Vermont CFIDS Association. In 2005 he published an autobiography “We’re Not in Kansas Anymore”. In this interview we talk about his experiences with ME/CFS, his monumental fights with the insurance industry, the group he founded and more.

You can find the book review and interview at http://phoenix-cfs.org/Int Rik Carlson.htm.

Upcoming interviews include one with R.E.S.C.I.N.D. founder Tom Hennessey, a two-part interview with Ken Friedman, researcher, advocate and father of a ME/CFS patient and more. Upon also is the Phoenix Rising Researcher/Research Group of the Year and a overreview of last years research.

A special thank you to Rich Carson and ProHealth. Rich Carson through Prohealth has been quietly donating to ME/CFS organizations and efforts for many years and they recently made a donation to Phoenix Rising . Thanks for your support!

As you have probably noticed some sections of Phoenix Rising (main headings, treatment section, newsletter section) now contain Google Ads. They are simply what they appear to be – an attempt, after six years of not working – to make at least some income. Unless they more or less fail in that regard – which they may! – they will likely be a permanent feature of Phoenix Rising.

Happy reading,

Yours truly,
Cort
