Charity calendar to raise awareness of Fibromyalgia

Thursday 29 November 2007

PolkaDotGalsA calendar is being produced to raise awareness of Fibromyalgia.

Bianca Embley, a British 31-year-old model and long-term sufferer of the disease, has launched the PolkaDotGals campaign which is supported by page three model Danni Wells, championship 100m hurdler Sara McGreavy, America's Cup sailor David Carr, and Coventry City footballers. They will all be featured in the PolkaDotGals 2009 Calendar.

Bianca, who has been a sufferer since the age of 21, is very keen to generate the support of the business community to provide sponsorship to help the campaign to reach as wide an audience as possible.

Here are a few comments from Bianca who is Project Director of the campaign:

“The Polkadotgals Calendar campaign, in support of the chronic illness Fibromyalgia, was my brainchild, as a sufferer l realised the importance of raising awareness. I was working as a flight attendant for Virgin Atlantic in 1998 when I had an accident on board which caused Fibromyalgia. I am now 31, registered disabled, unable to return to work and require full time care.

This potentially disabling condition of constant widespread muscle pain and crippling fatigue affects millions worldwide at a ratio of 9 women to one man, with one of the most common cause’s being a simple whiplash injury. There is no cure and due to its unbearable symptoms the suicide rate is at an all time high.

I have also modeled professionally since the age of 14 and wanted to do something related to that would grab the attention of the general public to raise awareness.

The calendar is being shot by leading UK fashion and editorial photographers and will feature sufferers, their family and friends portrayed part nude in tasteful and artistic scenes, incorporating our support ribbon colours of yellow & black. The response so far has been amazing.

The campaign and calendar is being supported by model, Danni Wells; championship 100m hurdler Sara McGreavey; David Carr, America's Cup sailor, and Coventry City footballers, who will all be featured in the PolkaDotGals 2009 calendar.

As our charity has very little funding we are in urgent need of sponsorship and support to help us meet ongoing campaign & project costs. Please let me know if you can help. Thank you.”
