Become an ME/CFS Polly ChaserMonday 10 September 2007
One act of advocacy will earn you the title of ME/CFS Polly Chaser and we’ll post your achievement on this website. Speak to a candidate. Write a letter. Send an email. Spend 10 minutes or an hour on it. Just let us know when you’ve done it. Read on… The ME/CFS Polly ChasersIf you have time to send off an email or post a letter, you can help us all. Contact local candidates and sitting members and ask what they are doing about ME/CFS. The letter available to download below is a sample that you could adapt to send to your local candidates as the federal election approaches:
There’s no need to wait until the election is called: by law, it has to happen before 18 January 2008, so everyone knows that it will happen before Xmas. That means there is less than three months until the election is all over, maybe even as little as six weeks. So we need to get into action now. You should seriously consider using James Hackett’s figures of those affected by ME/CFS for your electorate. We strongly encourage you to personalise your letter so that candidates are not receiving identical letters from a number of people. The websites of political parties should let you know who has been nominated as a candidate for your electorate. For example, Liberal candidates and sitting members can be found on this web page:
Labor (note that Labor Party does not have a “u” in Labor) candidates and sitting members here:
For the Greens, you can find their candidates in SA for the Senate or House of Reps via this page:
For the Democrats, Ruth Russell is running as a Senate candidate:
etc. Election WatchPlease let us know which candidates you have sent letters or emails to you so that we can keep a tally. If you come up with your own letter to candidates that you think might be useful for others, please email us (sacfs@sacfs.asn.au) or mail a sample to us:
