MCS Public Rally

Friday 24 October 2008

MCS Public RallyThe South Australian Task Force on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity will hold a public rally on Friday 31 October at 12 noon outside the Adelaide office of the federal Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs at 11 Waymouth Street, Adelaide. A flier is available (see below).

The rally calls on the federal Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities, the Hon Bill Shorten, MP, to support the development of a national MCS disability access strategy in Australia. The rally has been organised following the federal Minister for Health’s refusal to consider human rights and disability access considerations as part of the national review of MCS by the Office of Chemical Safety.

Australia lags well behind other developed nations in its response to the disability access needs of people living with MCS. An example of what can be achieved in MCS disability access is the US National Institute of Buildings Sciences Indoor Environmental Quality guidelines for MCS. A copy of the US guidelines is available at http://ieq.nibs.org/. We need to develop a similar document in Australia based on human rights considerations.

Please show your support for human rights and environmental public health by attending the rally on October 31 and forwarding this notice to your information networks.
