Farewell and thanks, Sandra Kanck

Wednesday 3 December 2008

Sandra KanckVeteran State MLc Sandra Kanck (South Australian Democrats) (pictured) has retired. We don’t honour all politicians on their departure from the scene. But we have to make an exception for Sandra.

Here’s what our president has to say:

Our Premier has rather oddly (and ungraciously) called Sandra ‘one of the great eccentrics of the SA Parliament’. If eccentricity means someone prepared to fight hard for people suffering from chemical sensitivities and other invisible disabilities; if it means being the only politiciansto roll up regularly to tiny MCS demonstrations; if it means someone persisting in the fight to eliminate smoking as a great social evil – then bring on more eccentrics! In my view she was worth five complaisant backbenchers from each of the major parties.

We wish Sandra well. We will miss her advocacy for our cause within the halls of Parliament. We’ll have to work harder to find ears willing to listen and a voice ready to speak up for us on North Terrace.

Thanks, Sandra. Enjoy your retirement. From your grateful fellow travellers at ME/CFS Australia (SA).”
