Chronically ill? Dental problems? Beware…

Friday 19 December 2008

LifeMattersThe ABC radio program Life Matters reports on what may be an undesirable move by the Government for those with disabilities:

“The government wants to scrap the Dental Medicare scheme to make way for expansion of the Commonwealth Dental Health Program aimed at reducing long waiting lists for public dental services.

Dental Medicare was brought in by the previous government for people with chronic health problems but, apart from NSW, the take-up rate has been tiny.

Health Minister Nicola Roxon says it's a 'failed scheme of the Liberals'.

Professor Hans Zoellner, who chairs the the Association for the Promotion of Oral Health, thinks Dental Medicare should stay.”
