Research on the lifestyle of people with ME/CFS

SandwichThe Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics has published a research paper from The Netherlands comparing people with ME/CFS to the general population there.

Out of 247 ME/CFS patients studied, the main results were that:

23% smoked

32% had an unhealthy BMI

none had an unhealthy alcohol intake

a majority had an unhealthy food intake: 70% had unhealthy fat, fruit and vegetable intake, and 95% had unhealthy fiber intake

And compared to the general population:

significantly fewer CFS patients were overweight

significantly more female CFS patients abstained from alcohol

fewer male CFS patients smoked
