Hallmann research – phase III

Wednesday 15 April 2009

Southern Cross UniversityA doctoral research project by Geoffrey Hallmann is about to enter its third phase.

[See 16 January news item for more information about the research.]

Here’s an update from Geoffrey about the latest progress:

ME/CFS RESEARCH - REQUEST FOR PARTICIPANTS (AUSTRALIA WIDE)

Hello all

Thank you all for the support of my research. To date there have been around 30 replies and SA have starred by far. At this point I won't be travelling to South Australia. The progress of the pilot study will mean that phase III will be about 12 participants and this will come from Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Lismore (and the FNC) and Melbourne at this stage.

I am preparing for phase III of the research now and I am basically putting together a list of participants from throughout Australia to reach around 250 responses to the Phase III questionnaire. A Survey Monkey site will be established to allow participants to participate. I will have paper and Email documents available as well for those who cannot to the website.

I have attached the details of Phase III as a recruiting letter. I would like to get participants from those who are particularly ill. I want their voice included in this research, even if it means that they take a long time to respond or if they have assistance from someone to complete it (obviously not at the cost of their health).

FOR THOSE WHO ASKED TO BE IN PHASE III
Please refer to the attached information sheet [download here – 178KB].

Should you be one of those participants, I have already contacted you. However, please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NEWSLETTERS/MEETINGS
I would like to request that this be advertised within your meetings or newsletter across the next few months. The more participants we get from throughout Australia, the better the quality of the work and the understanding of the Australian Experience.

Best wishes, and once again, thank you for your kind assistance.
