Improvement in Fibromyalgia Symptoms Sustained for 1 Year With Milnacipran

Kristina Rebelo reports on a one-year study that found the antidepressant milnacipran (brand name Savella) helped reduce symptoms of Fibromyalgia:

SAN DIEGO -- May 15, 2009 -- Milnacipran is capable of sustained efficacy, improvement in multiple symptoms, and durable pain relief without any new safety concerns in treating multidimensional symptoms of fibromyalgia for at least 1 year, according to a study presented here at the 28th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Pain Society (APS).

"Medications providing sustained relief of these symptoms are important to improve quality of life of fibromyalgia patients," said R. David Ferrera, MD, Sacramento Research Medical Group, Sacramento, California, on May 8.
