Nutritional Approaches in Fibromyalgia

Thursday 16 July 2009

FoodDr Mark Pellegrino has an interesting article about the importance of nutrition in helping to deal with Fibromyalgia.

Dr Pellegrino has had Fibromyalgia himself since childhood and been his own Guinea pig in trialling the nutrition strategies mentioned in his article:

Over the years I’ve used a lot of supplements in the treatment of fibromyalgia, and I believe they are effective in many patients. Not all patients benefit, but in general supplements are safe to try and, if they help, are relatively inexpensive to continue. Today nutritional supplements are one of the most important treatments I recommend for fibromyalgia.

Deficiencies in Fibromyalgia

Let’s review a number of deficiencies and how they may affect our fibromyalgia symptoms, and look at specific supplements that may help.

Dr Pellegrino then goes on to discuss the following in detail:

Serotonin Deficiency

Magnesium Deficiency

Low Amine ATP, or Energy Efficiency

Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Low Growth Hormone Level

Adrenal Hormone Deficiency

Supplement Strategies for Treating Specific FM Symptoms

The full article can be found here.

The article is excerpted from Dr Pellegrino's book, Fibromyalgia: Up Close and Personal. Dr Pellegrino has a practice at the Ohio Rehab Center.
