A member and children's novelistWednesday 23 September 2009
Society member Marianne Musgrove took up writing for children after contracting ME/CFS. Read about her first book... When I first got CFS, I was more or less bed-ridden and could no longer work as a social worker. Instead, I wrote my first children's novel, The Worry Tree, a story about a worrywart who discovers a old painting of a tree beneath the wallpaper in her new bedroom. It's a Worry Tree she can hang her worries on at night. Some years later, my book was published by Random House Australia and won the "2007 Young Readers/Picture Book" Award in the Australian Family Therapists' Award for Children's Literature. It was also short-listed for three other awards. I've since had two other books published, and my work has been translated into various languages. Interestingly, I would never have realised my dream of becoming an author were it not for getting CFS.
