Eric's home - after cycling 21,500 miles round the world for the ME Association
Tuesday, 13 April 2010 11:55
The ME Association's round-the-world cyclist, Eric Smart, arrived home in Aberdeen just after 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon – joining a wee convoy of other cyclists as they swept towards a grand welcome from his parents, Stuart and Audrey, friends and neighbours. Scottish TV were there as was Leila Donald who has rushed out this short video.
He's home just a few days short of the second anniversary of the start of his bike ride on 5 May 2008. Originally, he planned to pedal from Abderdeen to Adelaide in south Australia to meet up with old friends, but he then decided to push on to finish the grand tour.
And what does the future hold for the 46-year-old former postman? "I'm thinking of cycling round Africa... but after a rest!"
We've written about Eric frequently in this news section. Click here for more stories about our hero.
Eric set himself a target to raise £12,000 for the ME Association and he's a just a few quid short. Please help him get there! To make a secure online donation to his fundraising page, please click on the link below.
