New disability legislation for South Australia
Monday 11 June 2012
A final consultation paper has been drafted (Attached) and the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) is seeking the views of people with a lived experience of disability. This is your chance to have a say!
IDASA [The Intellectual Disability Association of South Australia] has recommended a stronger consumer engagement strategy via an ongoing truly representative Ministerial Advisory Council (MDAC). The current MDAC is not appointed by consumers nor can it necessarily represent the diverse voices or individual wishes of many South Australians living with specific individual needs due to its traditional structure and scope of operation.
IDASA has recommended that the majority of MDAC members should be elected by consumers of Disability Services in SA.
We encourage anyone from SA who has a disability or a loved one living with disability to read one of the attached versions of the Consultation paper (Plain English, Easy Read or Text) and provide any feedback by 6th July 2012 to:
Jill Whitehorn, Executive Officer, Department for Communities and Social Inclusion Ph 841 54384 or email Jill.Whitehorn@dcsi.sa.gov.au.
IDASA also welcomes your input and would appreciate copies of your thoughts sent to email@example.com.
Please consider mentioning any support you have of an elected majority Ministerial Advisory Council to DCSI.
