Newry M.E/Fibromyalgia support group celebrates £1000 donationTuesday 25 March 2014
Newry M.E/Fibromyalgia support group celebrates £1000 donation A local charity which provides patient support group meetings with specialist speakers to help patients manage their illness has been awarded £1,000 as part of Progressive Building Society’s Community Awards Scheme. The Newry and Mourne M.E/Fibromyalgia support group, based in Newry, Co Down was awarded the donation after being nominated for financial support by a Progressive Building Society member. The money will be used to help fund a unique International Professionals Conference enabling medical professionals to learn key findings about the illness from each other. The charity received the donation from Progressive as part of the building society’s Community Awards Scheme, which supports impactful initiatives by non-profit organisations working for the benefit of communities across Northern Ireland. The Awards invited funding applications for up to £2,000, with nominations coming from Progressive members. The charity was presented with a cheque by local Progressive Building Society manager Lynne Lyness. Lynne, Progressive Building Society manager at the Portadown branch, said, “The Newry and Mourne M.E/Fibromyalgia support group was nominated for the Community Award by one of our members for the work they do in the local community. “The charity provides much-needed information for patients and also carries out much needed bio medical research into the illness and I’m delighted to be able to present them with a donation from Progressive.” Martina Marks, Chairperson, added: “The money from the Award will be used to pay for the airfares to enable international medical professionals to attend this unique event and on behalf of the staff and volunteers at the charity; I’d like to say a big thank you to Progressive for their kind donation.”
