Ros reaps reward for 50 years of chronic fatigue research and treatment An Auckland GP who has dedicated her career to studying and treating chronic fatigue syndrome says she is stunned to receive an international award. Howick GP Ros Vallings has spent decades treating people with CFS (also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis). She was at a conference in Florida nearly two weeks ago when she was told she had won a special award for clinical expertise. 'I'm a bit overwhelmed in a way,' Dr Vallings says. 'I'm sure there are many people around the world equally deserving, although I have worked in this field for 50 years.' The Nelson Gantz Clinicians Award was presented at the International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis conference in Fort Lauderdale. Medical adviser at the New Zealand ME Association, Ken Jolly, says via email the award is particularly prestigious in the CFS community.
