Gofundme page set up for man suffering from CFS
LETHBRIDGE HERALD
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help a Lethbridge man who is suffering from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).
Carson Gunn was an elite athlete before being struck with CFS six months ago. According to his girlfriend Caitlin Stanley, Gunn is now bedridden, cannot walk, can barely talk, cannot feed himself, has daily migraines, sensitivity to light and sound.
After failing to receive a local diagnosis, Gunn was finally diagnosed two weeks ago with CFS. CFS is not taught in medical school, which is why no doctors Carson saw in Lethbridge were able to help him, said Stanley in an email. CFS lasts for about five years in the average person, but it can take as long as 20 years to fully recover.
Two Calgary doctors specialize in CFS and only one of the two provides treatment. Dr. Bruce Hoffman, a functional medicine doctor whose practice is in Calgary at the Hoffman Centre, is currently treating Gunn. However, Dr. Hoffman’s centre is a private clinic, and the cost of treatment is extremely high.
