Information and Support 2004What is this appeal for?ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a debilitating condition that affects up to 0.5% of the population. As yet we do not understand the cause of it, nor do we have a diagnostic test. The condition is poorly understood by the medical community, and society in general. People with ME/CFS often have family members that do not understand them, and they may even be ridiculed and described as being ‘lazy’ when then they are not. Many sufferers find themselves isolated, without support and at their wits’ end. Children are particularly vulnerable; if they are forced to spend the bulk of their time at home, they are often denied a proper education and it is more difficult for them to develop socially and emotionally. We provide information and emotional support to such people and their families. Improve our Information and Support Line...The Information and Support 2004 project aims to improve our Information and Support Line. An 1800 number phone line is open to the general public, and is staffed by volunteers. We are able to provide understanding, emotional support and information to people with ME/CFS and their families. To improve this service we will amongst other things be developing and producing additional resource materials available for distribution to the public, through our website and through the Information and Support Line.
